Howell High School Financial Reality Fair
On Wednesday May 17, Howell High School was taken over by 50 volunteers and nearly 200 Howell High School students for the Teen Financial Reality Fair. The Teen Financial Reality Fair gave students a reality check and a crash course in real life budgeting while illustrating the impact of their choices on their lifestyle. The fair was presented as a part of the partnership between LOC Federal Credit Union and Howell Public Schools through a grant from the Michigan Credit Union Foundation.
Students, ranging from Freshman to Seniors, received a budget worksheet including their gross monthly salary, tax breakdown, and monthly net salary. Budget in hand, students visited 12 stations where they made life choices, ranging from housing to cell phone providers, prioritizing and determining their wants and needs. Following the fair, students went through Financial Counseling in class with an LOC representative, reviewing their savings goals and what they accomplished during the fair.
